1953 Gibson Les Paul
BMVG's is pleased to offer a killer 1953 Gibson Les Paul PAF Conversion!
This guitar came in a while back from our buddy Joe B, Krusty tag included, hilariously awesome. This ole Lesters top was stripped long ago exposing a really nice face with figuring and was sealed in nitro, it's old, it's correct and it glows.
When the guitar arrived it wasn't really functional (we knew ahead of time that there were "things" to be sorted), original short bushings were really out of whack, two of the pots were dead, one of the p90's was intermittent; BUT the guitar rang like a bell, looks incredible & has original back finish including the serial number oh and its incredibly lightweight @ 8 lbs flat...
What to do?
Sorting the playability and geometry of the guitar out was absolutely the first order of biz. The original and very much useless 1/2" bushing were removed & swapped with 1 1/4"; beautiful! The p90's were plugged and re-routed for PAF's by Jim @ Jam City (cert included), the pick guard was reworked to accommodate the PAF's. This instrument being a late 53 and leaving the factory with a wrap tail did not need to have the neck steamed out and reset! Bonus imo! The dead pots were upgraded and a set of genuine long mag PAF's was installed! Neck reads 7.4 and is a double black with a full sticker, Bridge is obviously a zebra that reads 7.7 and is missing most of the sticker. The knobs, studs, short seam thin ear wrap, tuners, etc all remain original to the guitar.
There is something incredibly special about PAF loaded wrap tail guitars. They play, feel and respond very different than the traditional stop-tail set up, killer guitars and super unique!
