1956 Gibson Les Paul
BMVG's is pleased to present a killer 1956 Gibson Les Paul!
Featuring the revolutionary "tune-o-magic" abr-1 bridge & stop bar tailpiece set up. A critical step in the evolutionary progress of the Les Paul Standard. This example is an absolute feather weighing a ridiculous 7 lbs 7 oz! Without a doubt the lightest Les Paul we've ever encountered. The p90's are strong and articulate reading 8.2 N & 7.9 B respectively.
The rich dark back finish is a sight to behold, it's gloriously checked and has that amazing "broken in" feel. The top features checking, greening and honest wear, this instrument was never a case queen and certainly saw it's fair share of bars & clubs but also was never mistreated. Solders in the cavity remain factory perfect.
The jack plate appears to be a replacement & the jack itself has an added ground wire, not the worst thing on a p90 guitar. The A string tuner is a no line, single line tuners came out in mid 56. The patina on all the tuners & tips match identically so it is in our opinion original to the guitar. There is an earlier 56 for sale at Guitarpoint that has all no line tuners, so again it's a transitional period and no reason to believe it's not original.
The frets are also original to the guitar, they are lower but the guitar plays great up and down the board with zero issues. The neck is absolutely addictive, it measures .88 @1st & .97 @12th and has that feel we all desire.
This guitar may have additional clear coat overspray, specifically on the top/face. It black lights "factory correct" and IF some clear was added it was done long enough ago that it's very difficult now to be 100% certain. Black Magic Vintage Guitars would still greatly prefer to err on the side of caution mention it as a possibility.
